Hurricane the storm is forecast to become a uncommon category five storm as it turns toward the Caribbean island, bringing life-threatening flash flooding and rock falls.

This weather system, which recorded winds of up to 120 mph as of 6:00 AM GMT, is currently turning northwest in the Caribbean region and is projected to hit the coast by early next week, as reported by weather experts.

Advisories of electricity outages and structural damage have been released as the hurricane brings up to 76cm of rainfall and storm surges as high as 4m above normal levels. "Take cover without delay," inhabitants have been told.

This hurricane is the thirteenth cyclone in this year's Atlantic hurricane season, which typically ends in the eleventh month.

Category Five Hurricane Risk

A highest-level hurricane is the most intense classification, with winds of at least 157 miles per hour.

While the hurricane is projected to weaken to a category four hurricane before reaching the island, meteorologists said there was "very little practical difference in the total effects" upon reaching the coast, and that the cyclone will be "at least that intensity" when it impacts the island.

Critical Safety Steps

With tropical storm-level gusts and precipitation already expected well before it passes over central Jamaica - perhaps encompassing the city of Kingston - advisories emphasize that "readiness efforts must be accelerated".

"An extended timeframe of damaging winds and torrential rain are underway and will cause severe and deadly sudden floods and numerous landslides," counseled climate experts.

The country's head of government the statesman said: "I understand that there are numerous residents who are concerned, who are extremely apprehensive, and appropriately: concern is justified.

"But the best way to address worry and any unease and concern is to stay ready."

Locals are being instructed to fortify their houses with sand barriers and wooden boards, and to stock up on essentials.

Broader Consequences

Alerts are also active for parts of Haiti including the capital, Port au Prince, the Dominican Republic and Cuba's eastern region, where the hurricane is anticipated to bring comparable impacts by the midweek period.

Rock slides currently triggered by the cyclone have already killed two in Haiti, according to local authorities.

Expected Path

This weather system is forecast to cross the island nation by Wednesday before moving through the Antillas Mayores and entering the Atlantic Ocean.

By the moment it arrives at Cuba, it is anticipated to have weakened to a category three storm.

Although it is difficult to associate specific storms to global warming, experts say it is resulting in climate patterns more prevalent and more severe.
